Cucumber Water

So this post is a bit of a cop out I admit. I have had some spectacular success with some recipes lately, but due to a mixture of house-sitting and moving house have not taken the opportunity to proper write them up. The last adventure was Greek food, something I miss terribly from home and you cannot find it in Ireland. Lucky enough, unlike Mexican cuisine, you can find all of the ingredients here, even if no restaurants have ventured into serving Greek. But, this post is not a post about Greek food, this post is about water. It has been unusually warm in Ireland the last week, and hydration has become more important than ever. Drinking water, glasses of tap water, does not seem to be a norm here, certainly not in my circle. I have concluded this is largely due to the fact that tap water in Galway is a bit horrid. Given I am coming from the Twin Cities (home to the best tap water in the US according to the totally no biased opinion of the people who live there) But, instead of buying bottled water, I have taken to masking the taste with the trusty cucumber. Nothing is better on a hot summers day than a tall glass of cool cucumber water. It is easy as pie to make, slice cucumber, place in water. Obviously this (not) recipe works for pretty much anything, mint (muddle it a bit), lemons, limes, raspberries (again muddle them a bit), but nothing in my opinion compare to delicious cucumber. Low calorie, one of your five a day if you munch on the slices, quick and pretty much exactly the same thing you get when you buy one of those fancy (expensive) flavored waters. So get slicing and stay hydrated!
